All eleven SE riders earned at least one podium spot at the Ontario Provincial Championships. Not pictured are Joe Transue and Eva Burke
It's been a long winter in eastern Pennsylvania and we were anxious to get off the Wattbikes, and put a real bicycle into motion at the Ontario Provincial Championships at the Mattamy National Cycling Center in Milton, Ontario. We decided to leave the majority of our elite aged riders at home to continue training, while our mostly young and lesser experienced juniors make the trip north. In fact, half of our junior squad had never done a race outside of the BRL program at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. Our goal in Milton was nothing more than to experience and learn race day routine and learn how to handle a multi-day track event. We had no performance targets or race related goals. For the youngsters, its about preparing to prepare, training to train. Preparing and performing to win comes at the stage of athletic maturity.
Anja Thomas and Mia Deye paired to win the U17 Women's Team Sprint
That being said, we came away with some nice results in Milton. All eleven members of the squad making the trip found their way onto the podium at some point during the weekend. Podium spots for our youngest U15 competitor to our aged 60+ rider/coach!
We combined for some help with our friends from TTown Elite to fill squads for the team events. Jonah Hover joined our Finn Koller and James Townsend for a second place spot in the U17/15 mens TS, and Matt Smith(TTown) joined Tommy Quinn and Andrew Chu for silver in the Junior Men's TS. Thanks to our friends from TTown, great riding!
Marcy Bardman and Allyson Wasielewski take the win in the Elite Women/Junior Women Team Sprint.
Milton gave us a little break from a long winter, but for now its back to work looking ahead to the season ahead.
