Sprinters Edge welcomes Hall of Famer, Jim Alvord, to the Coaching Staff

Sprinters Edge is proud to welcome Jim Alvord as Foundation Program Coach. The Foundation program is a step by step performance system for young or newer developng riders that focuses on developing technical skills, learning the how's and why's of training and preparation, and building the physical base necessary to meet the demands of more intensive training in the future as the young athlete matures and becomes ready for heavy training loads.

Coach Alvord brings nearly 30 years of contribution as a coach at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, and over 40 years of experience as a competitor to the table. Alvord began his racing career in 1974 and became known as a tenacious competitor, using his skill, race craft, and determination to win many races on the track and road. Coach Alvord's racing career is only surpassed by the time he has given back to the sport. Alvord has introduced thousands of young riders to the sport through the program he developed,

PeeWee Pedalers, and various other programs at the velodrome. In 2014, Coach Alvord's accomplishments were recognized when he was inducted into the prestigious Valley Preferred Cycling Center's Hall of Fame. At Sprinters Edge, Alvord will use his love and passion for the sport, his vast knowledge and experience, and his patient and encouraging demeanor to provide a fun and challenging environment to young riders who desire to move through the ranks and earn a spot on the International Development Program.

Andrew Harris, Performance Director and Head Coach at Sprinters Edge, says "We are extremely excited to have Jim on board with us. While many of our younger riders have moved on to their final years as juniors or are in the elite ranks, we are placing renewed emphasis on rebuilding and improving the Foundation Program. With Jim, we are going to be able to build it stronger than ever. I have been looking for quite a while for someone who has the knowledge and understands the importance of our model for Long Term Athletic Development. It's the long term development that we are interested in, and Jim is going to help build the base that we need for the future. We are blessed to have Jim, his knowledge, his passion for teaching, his humility, and his drive to be the best. These attributes make him the perfect fit for our Foundation and technical skill coach". Coach Alvord adds, "Last year I got the bug to return to sprinting! I watched my son get a bronze in the Keirin and win gold with his Sprinter's Edge teammates in team sprint at National Championships in Trexlertown! All season Sprinter's Edge cyclists consistently crank out top placings & I could see their racing skills just kept improving!! In my 43 years of racing I have been around some of the best racers & coaches in the sport & I owe much of my success to what I learned from them. Allentown has some fantastic track coaches, but I knew my son's coach, Andrew Harris, had something special! I just had to be part of Sprinter's Edge & get in on their cutting edge formula for success!! Peak performance is my goal, but when I found it delivered in an atmosphere of respect, discipline & comradery, I knew it was where I wanted to be!"

While we are excited that Jim Alvord is back on the track sprinting, Sprinters Edge is even more pleased that he will take on duel roles as a rider and coach.
